Rock Creek Defends Home Court Against RBS
Rock Creek Christian Academy managed to hold on in a balanced effort against a guard heavy Riverdale Baptist team. Rock Creek, which boasts a starting lineup of no player under 6 feet punished RBS on the offensive glass in the waning moments of the contest, proving too daunting for their league rival. Rock Creek sophomore Sherif Kenney led the team on the offensive and defensive side of the ball scoring 14 points and stifling RBS smaller guards. He thrived on controlled, slashing drives to the hoop, often creating enough contact to get to the free throw line. The Rock Creek forward Jermaine Harris struggled in the first half with the scrappy Crusader defense, but attacked the glass in the second half providing strong second chance points finishing with 19 in total..
On the Crusader side the steady senior Deion Hammond and the lightning quick Donovan Toatley put up big numbers in a losing effort. The pair scored 20 and 22 points respectively. The Monmouth recruit had a big first half mixing it up with finishes, mid range pull-ups, and three pointers. Toatley managed to get to his spots on the court for 10 foot step backs, and quick finishes. With the win Rock Creek bolstered their lead of the Capitol Beltway league, and remain the team to beat in the DMV.
